Geography

The Geography Curriculum is designed to develop in children an awareness of their own environment and personal self-esteem and pride in their community. We aim to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, equipping them with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. Learning in Geography includes the use of maps, diagrams and globes and considers the interaction between physical and human geographical features of the world. Children’s work on sustainability and opportunities to join the Eco Team develops their empathy and understanding of challenges facing both the world and their local environment. Kindness, empathy for others, and use of good manners is reinforced through collaborative teaching strategies, through which children are expected to apply themselves and work hard.

A geographer leaving Woodfield knows the continents of the world and can talk about some of its most significant human and physical features, using geographical vocabulary. They are able to use, read and understand features of maps, and use globes and atlases and fieldwork in geographical enquiry.
