School Uniform

The school logo on the P.E. kit is optional.
Skins and/or visible underlayers are not permitted.

Footwear
We believe that it is dangerous for children to wear shoes with platform soles or high heels in school, so we do not allow this. Neither do we allow children to wear trainers to school unless it is a PE day; these are appropriate for sport or as leisurewear but are not in keeping with the smart appearance of a school uniform.
The school uniform policy for footwear for indoor PE is bare feet or pumps/plimsolls. Indoor PE lessons are largely based on balance, strength and agility work; therefore, trainers are not suitable as they do not allow the foot and toes to move through a full range of flexion and extension, which in turn strengthens the muscles, bones and joints. Light-soled pumps are preferred as dark-soled pumps (including those designed as non-marking) can mark our hall floor due to the nature of activities. Pumps can be kept in school to change into for indoor PE lessons.
Footwear for outdoor PE should be training shoes (trainers) as these provide good traction and support for high impact activities.
Parents are responsible for ensuring their child attends school wearing their PE kit on designated days.

Jewellery

The school rules on jewellery are as follows:

•One pair of plain stud earrings may be worn – no other piercings are permitted.
•A smart and sensible wrist watch may be worn. Children are not permitted to wear watches with built-in connectivity eg ‘smart watches’, even if this is turned off.

Pupils will be advised that jewellery is their personal responsibility and not that of the school. Lost or damaged items will not be refunded. All jewellery must be removed during practical lessons, including PE lessons and science experiments.

Bags
Only designated school bags with the Woodfield logo, available from a range of retailers, are allowed in school.
•Book Bag or satchel (preferred in YR-Y2)
•Woodfield Backpack (small) (Y2-6)
The school will discourage pupils from bringing valuable bags to school. The school will not be liable for lost or damaged school bags.

Hairstyles and headwear
Pupils with long hair must ensure that this does not impede their vision, cover their face, or cause a health and safety risk. Long hair must be tied back. Hairbands, ribbons, bows, etc should be plain. Hair bands should not have large flowers attached. Extreme or ‘fashion’ hairstyles, including those where there is a significant difference in length between different parts of the hair, are not appropriate for school. Hair must not be cut shorter than a ‘number 2’. The use of styling products should be kept to a minimum and children should not have decorative patterns cut into their hair or have hair coloured or dyed.
The school reserves the right to make a judgement on whether a pupil’s hairstyle, hair colour or headwear is inappropriate for the school environment; however, the school will ensure that any such judgements do not discriminate against any pupil by virtue of their protected characteristics. Each individual pupil’s scenario will be taken into account where any judgements on appropriateness are to be made.

Jewellery, Make-up and Nail Varnish
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery (other than a watch) in our school. This includes non-uniform days. The exceptions to this rule are ear-ring studs in pierced ears, and small objects of religious significance, such as a crucifix on a chain. We ask the children to remove these objects during PE and games, or, in specific circumstances, to cover them with a plaster. Make-up and nail varnish should not be worn to school unless for an out of school hours function, for example, a school disco.
